ThinkBrick began in 2020 with a farmhouse renovation, two architects trained in England, and a conviction that the person who draws a building should also answer for how it is built.
ThinkBrick was founded in 2020 by Akilesh Surendhiran and Keerthivarman Engur Mohan. Both come from families with a long history in construction, the third generation to work in it, and both went to England to study architecture. The first project was a farmhouse renovation.
What the early projects taught them was a gap they had grown up watching from the other side: the architect draws, the contractor builds, and the two rarely sit in the same room. Details get lost between them, the client carries the coordination, and the building pays for it. The families knew how to build. The degrees knew how to design. Putting the two under one roof was the founding decision.
Design and construction under one team means the drawing is made by people who will stand on the site, and the site is run by people who understand the drawing. Materials, brands and thicknesses go into writing before work begins. Decisions are made on renders, not guesses.
The same gap appeared again in interiors, where furniture arrived from vendors who had never seen the drawings. So the studio built its own workshop at Avinashi and, from it, Maram: premium modular furniture made to the tolerances of architecture, with ten saplings planted for every room it furnishes.
